Ten individuals found guilty of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of spreading false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
